Hi, I'm Leo Wang. I started RootPurr.
The honest version of why I started this brand: my cat, Mochi, went through more clay litter brands than I can remember before I finally admitted the grey dust all over my kitchen floor was coming from the bag itself.
I'm currently pursuing a PhD in materials engineering in the US, and I've spent years around litter manufacturing. The family-owned facility in Xingtai, Hebei that produces our pellets has been making granular litter for two generations. I've been on that production line since 2019, working closely with pellet density, moisture control, and dust reduction long before I ever thought about building a consumer brand.
Over time, I started looking at cat litter the same way I look at any engineered material:
- What's actually in it?
- How much dust does it generate?
- Can the performance be measured and verified?
And that eventually led to a simple question:
If we already know how to press plant fiber pellets to around 1% powder content, and can verify it through third-party testing, why are so many litter brands still selling products without publishing dust numbers at all?
That question became RootPurr.
We built this company around measurable dust control, not marketing claims. We test independently because I want to read the actual reports myself. We don't say “flushable” because the lab can't guarantee it. We don't say “100% dust-free” because that's a slogan, not a measurement.

The litter aisle is full of soft words: natural, safe, low dust, eco-friendly. None of those words mean anything by themselves. The five numbers on the right are what we actually had measured by an independent laboratory.
