Frequently asked questions.
The eight questions buyers and cat owners ask most often. Full list of 73 answers lives in the FAQ.
Is cassava cat litter safe for cats?
Yes. Properly processed cassava litter is safe: the HCN (hydrocyanic acid) precursors present in raw cassava are eliminated during high-temperature drying. RootPurr's third-party report (WTJC 2026 No. 0009) shows formaldehyde, aflatoxin B1, and salmonella all non-detect.
Can tofu cat litter be flushed down the toilet?
No. Dense plant-based clumps can still block household plumbing even when made from plant materials. RootPurr does not market its litter as flushable. Scoop into the trash and rotate fully every 2–4 weeks.
How long does it take to switch a cat to a new litter?
About 7 days for a typical adult cat, using a gradual blend that steps up 25% / 50% / 75% / 100% every two days. Stretch to 10–14 days for kittens, seniors, or fussy multi-cat households.
What is the MOQ for private-label cat litter?
Our private-label / OEM minimum is 1 full container load (FCL), about 25 metric tonnes, roughly 4,500 retail cases. Smaller pilot runs are evaluated case-by-case for committed brands.
What is the lead time for an OEM custom-formula run?
Approximately 30–45 days artwork-to-FOB once the formula and packaging are signed off. Sampling adds 7–14 days at the front of the timeline.
What is the difference between FOB and DDP for cat litter?
FOB ends the supplier's responsibility at the origin port. You handle freight, US customs, duties, and last-mile. DDP delivers door-to-door with the supplier handling customs and duties. FOB is typically 10–20% cheaper landed for buyers already running an import program; DDP removes the operational burden for first-time importers.
What HTS code does plant-based cat litter use in the US?
Plant-fiber-based cat litter (cassava, tofu, corn, pea-fiber) is most commonly classified under HTS 2308.00.98 (other vegetable materials, n.e.s.o.i.). Final classification is the importer of record's responsibility, so confirm with your customs broker.
Do you provide a third-party lab report?
Yes. RootPurr publishes the full third-party inspection report (WTJC 2026 No. 0009) covering formaldehyde, aflatoxin B1, salmonella, powder content (1%), and ammonia deodorization rate (88%). Per-batch COAs are issued for OEM orders.
